Women in Mining (WIM) Canada seeks to promote the appointment of women to leadership positions and corporate boards in the Mining Industry.

 

There is mounting evidence that the presence of women in the boardroom can improve a company’s bottom line.  Recent studies such as those by Catalyst, and McKinsey have been able to correlate the inclusion of women in leadership roles with higher profits.  Catalyst’s 2007 study of Fortune 500 boards found that return on equity was 53% higher at companies with the most women on their boards compared with those with the fewest women.  McKinsey’s findings reinforce these.

 

We know that there are many talented and capable executive women who want to serve on boards.  Yet despite this, half of Canada’s largest public companies have no women directors.  Moreover the Canadian Mining Industry has only 6.5% of their board positions filled by women.
